Now's the Time to Start Laser Hair Removal

During the cool days of early spring, it can be easy to forget that the summer months are inching closer and closer. Even though the current weather may have you thinking otherwise, hot sunny days are almost here. How comfortable will you feel when the time comes for t-shirts, swimsuits, and tank tops?

For people with unwanted body hair, summer usually means one of two things: a lot of shaving and waxing to keep everything trim or covering up the spots you don’t want others to see. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way. Laser hair removal can help you throw away your razors and be proud to show off your beautiful body.

Get your treatment course of laser hair removal started now to make sure your summer is razor- and worry-free. How laser hair removal works

At GLO Aesthetics, we use the Icon™ Aesthetic System; this tool delivers the most effective hair removal for the largest number of patients.

During a treatment, the laser emits light that is absorbed by the pigment, or melanin, in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicles and prevents or delays future hair growth. Because the pigment in the hair absorbs the light instead of the pigment in the skin, only the hair follicle is damaged.

What areas can be treated?

Laser hair treatment can work almost anywhere on the body you have hair. Most patients will opt to treat an area they feel self-conscious about or find that they are constantly shaving or waxing. Common treatment sites include:

When it comes to treatment times, it depends on the area you wish to treat. While the upper lip will take minutes, your back or legs could take over an hour.

Does it hurt?

Although the laser might sound intimidating or scary, laser hair removal is actually less painful than waxing or electrolysis.

Most patients tolerate the treatment well, but you may feel some prickling and heat during your session. We’ll provide ice packs and cooling gel after your treatment to ease any discomfort. Side effects are almost always mild, but may include the following:

You will need to stay out of the sun for a few weeks after treatment, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV light. This makes early spring a great time to start treatment.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of sessions necessary will largely depend on your hair type, the density of the hair, and the area being treated. Most patients see major improvements with four treatments and permanent smoothness between five and seven sessions. Because hair grows in spurts, your appointments are spaced six weeks apart to achieve maximum hair reduction.

Although some patients opt to perform treatments until there is no hair growth, you can also elect to have minor touch-ups as you notice new growth.

Leave shaving, waxing, and plucking in your rearview mirror this summer. The team at GLO Aesthetics will make sure you get the laser hair removal results you desire. Call or request an appointment at our Philadelphia office today.
